Comparisons With Other Medical Marijuana States

By the end of 2019, Ohio made over $58 million in medical marijuana sales, compared with Illinois, which made only around $36 million. This was less, however, than Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Ohio also had more medical marijuana patients by the end of 2019 than Illinois, with over 78,000 compared with close to 15,000. Maryland and Pennsylvania also had higher patient numbers than both other states at that point, although Ohio’s were close, with Maryland’s and Pennsylvania’s only in the 83,000-84,000 range, or just around 5,000-6,000 more than Ohio.

Meanwhile, all this increased demand for medical marijuana hasn’t caused a spike in prices. While medical marijuana prices remained somewhat high in the program’s first year, Marijuana Business Daily foresees it already declining and only continuing to do so into the future. As more doctors become certified to recommend medical marijuana and more cultivators, processors, testers and dispensaries receive licenses and Certificates of Operation, the supply of medical marijuana in Ohio will only rise to meet demand, continuing to keep prices low and dropping.
